Brushless
outrunner motors are becoming increasingly popular for powering model
aircraft.
The outstanding features of these new electric motors are high torque,
high efficiency and low noise.
Torcman motors are a fairly recent development. As such, they are still
regarded as something of a well kept secret amongst model flyers. Due to
the construction and winding techniques employed these motors can turn
large propellers without using a gearbox. This
saves weight, reduces maintenance due to fewer moving parts and increases
robustness and durability.
Torcman motors are available as finished motors or complete kits in nine
different sizes spanning a range of power from approximately 40W to more
than 1800W. A reasonably experienced modeller can expect to assemble a
Torcman motor in three to four hours. By varying the coil windings Torcman
motors can be optimised for different applications.
